Postcard Mailings: An Effective MSP Marketing Method

In these days of social media and online advertising, you may assume that more traditional means of marketing are no longer effective. Although this is a reasonable assumption, there’s not really any firm basis for it.

While the popularity of online marketing means that fewer companies now fully rely on activities such as print advertising and mail-outs, this doesn’t mean these older methods no longer work. Conversely, the fact that fewer companies employ the traditional methods could, subjectively, make them more effective than they were in the past, and add to your MSP Sales Funnel.

Sending out postcard mailings to promote your MSP services is still a marketing avenue worth some exploration. Consider the following:

  1. At the very least, someone at your target company(s) will look at a direct-mailed postcard if it contains a bold and inventive marketing message. No such guarantee exists for a sales email.

  2. People can read the message on a postcard ad instantly – there’s no need to open an envelope.

  3. A printed mail-out, if cleverly thought-out and designed, can grab serious attention. For example, you could produce a postcard offering a free IT site survey, highlighting a frightening fact such as: “50% of the companies we have surveyed were unaware of backup problems that were putting their data at risk.”
While this particular fact is fictional, for the sake of illustrating the example, you shouldn’t find it hard to create a genuine statistic that illustrates a similarly eye-opening point.

  4. Traditional “snail mail” is becoming less heavily used, as many communications now take place via email. As such, each item of traditional mail gets a little more attention than it may have in the past, especially when you’re dealing with small business prospects that get very little.

  5. Someone at your target company has to physically throw away your postcard mailing, or place it in the recycling bin. A spam filter could remove the same marketing message sent by email.

With all the above in mind, surely it’s worth attempting an inexpensive postcard mail-out for your MSP business? If it succeeds in generating business, it could become part of your ongoing marketing plan.

To make things easy, you may wish to consider using a mail-out service to manage your postcard campaign. Addressing, stamping and sending hundreds or thousands of postcards is time-consuming and laborious. Services exist that do all of this for you at a relatively low cost. Here are a few to get you started:

  1. AmazingMail is a “next day” mailing service with no minimum order. Although AmazingMail is US based, they will send to anywhere in the world. Find them at: http://www.amazingmail.com/

  2. Vistaprint is a well-known global stationery and printing company. As well as handling the printing of your marketing materials, they can manage your mailing list and deal with the mailing process. Find them at: http://www.vistaprint.com/

  3. Click2Mail is a comprehensive printing and mailing service offering a huge range of different options. See https://click2mail.com

Just because new ways of doing things become popular, it doesn’t mean the old ways become less effective. You’ll notice that plenty of blue-chip companies continue to put advertising material through your door, and it’s because they know it works. Why not try the same for your MSP?

GFI MAX offers backup solutions and other offerings for MSPs.
