Managing SAP, VMware in the Software Defined Data Center (SDDC)

For mission-critical applications like SAP, what does the march from virtualized servers toward the software-defined data center (SDDC) involve? VMware (VMW) Professional Services Consultant David Gallant has weighed in with some advice.

First, the big picture: In addition to virtualization servers, businesses will increasingly virtualize and converge their network and storage components, VMware asserts. The goal is to empower customers and service providers SDDC — a single platform that improves IT management, scalability and performance.

But the journey toward SDDC will increasingly involve mission-critical workloads like SAP. How can customers and channel partners navigate that journey? In a blog, Gallant offers this advice:

  • vCloud Automation Center (vCAC): This will allow SAP customers and service providers to "take full advantage of the advanced automation capabilities with the SDDC. vCAC is the foundation for handling the Service Catalog Portal.

  • vCenter Orchestrator: That will give you the ability to connect and see across technologies.

  • Landscape Virtualization Manager: That's the key to helping IT professionals and service providers manage SAP environments, he asserts.

Of course, The VAR Guy has greatly simplified the discussion and the journey, for the sake of a succinct blog post. For more details, check out Gallent's guidance here.
