ThinkGrid and MigrationWiz Move Customers to Hosted Microsoft Exchange

ThinkGrid is a hosted messaging solution vendor based in the UK. MigrationWiz specializes in cloud-based migration solutions. Combine the two, and you get a cloud-delivered MigrationWiz offering to help shift customers from on-premises Microsoft Exchange to a ThinkGrid-hosted deployment. For cloud VARs, this may well save you a trip to a customer site and boost some margins on the subscription fee.

The value proposition is fairly self-evident: Customers save on the time and cost of having the cloud service provider come out and spend hours manually migrating data to ThinkGrid’s platform. And the cloud service provider gets to charge for a value-added service while still saving themselves the effort, according to the press release.

The caveat is that the MigrationWiz solution as presented here only works with Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Small Business Server — it won’t help move data from any other platform.

Said ThinkGrid CEO Rob Lovell in a prepared statement:

“Thanks to our partnership with MigrationWiz, resellers now have a significantly faster and pain free approach for taking customers to the cloud. In fact, once customers are on board with Hosted Exchange, they then start to see the benefit of moving a variety of applications to the cloud.”

We’ll be watching to see if Microsoft introduces similar migration tools once Office 365 ships sometime this year. Office 365 is the forthcoming successor to Microsoft BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite), which includes Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Lync, among other solutions.
