Spanish broadband and telecommunications provider Telefónica has added disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) to its Virtual Data Center (VDC) enterprise cloud solution.

The global telecommunications giant said this solution now can help enterprises protect their applications in disasters and guarantee business continuity.

Telefónica’s VDC solution is an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering that gives users “the same level of management, monitoring and control that [they] can have on a traditional data center,” according to Datacenter Dynamics.

VDC DRaaS leverages Zerto‘s Virtual Replication, a hypervisor-based replication and recovery solution for business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) in virtualized and cloud environments.

It also allows enterprises to host their critical applications in the cloud and have their virtual machines (VMs) replicated in two data centers, Zerto said.

“With the introduction of this offering, Telefónica is demonstrating its commitment to providing user-friendly, storage-agnostic disaster recovery (DR) that delivers value,” Zerto CEO Ziv Kedem said in a prepared statement. “Service providers like Telefónica are increasingly eager to offer DR services that seamlessly align with their cloud environments and meet the rigorous standards their customers expect.”

How do Telefónica and Zerto work together to provide DR support?

Zerto Virtual Replication is available around the clock and enables Telefónica customers to access copies of their cloud apps and VMs.

The replication solution is integrated with every layer of VDC, Zerto said, and allows users to duplicate VMs from their own private infrastructure or replicate Telefónica’s infrastructure from one data center to another.

Zerto added replication is done through Telefónica private networks technology, and customers can configure and monitor the replication themselves or delegate these tasks in Telefónica’s Managed Services.
