ODCA, Intel Partner for Cloud IaaS Service Quality Resources

The Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA) announced at the 5th Annual Telco Cloud World Forum that it is partnering with Intel (INTC) on a proof of concept that provides a method evaluating different infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings.

The framework was designed to help enterprises evaluate different IaaS offerings based on quality of service, their ability to deliver better end user experiences, enhance overall cloud operations and help them increase their return on investment. Additionally, the proof of concept also proposes the adoption of an industrywide “Cloud Facts” label that is similar to the nutrition facts label used by the food industry. (Just how much sodium does the average IaaS contain?)

The “Proof of Concept: Enterprise Cloud Service Quality” white paper was developed in conjunction with Intel and software provider Appnomic Systems.

“We’re very excited about this PoC with Appnomic Systems, Intel and the support of our steering group, as we contribute to the valuable body of ODCA work,” said Cathy Spence, ODCA adviser and principal engineer at Intel, in a prepared statement. “Adding to the body of knowledge that the ODCA has created so far, this PoC will save enterprises time, money and resources, allowing IT departments to make informed decisions about how to architect and deploy data center services.”

Additionally, the ODCA announced it was collaborating with Intel to integrate its usage models into the Intel Cloud Finder Program to help assist end users with the selection of cloud services providers.

“ODCA members have stated a desire to easily identify cloud services meeting ODCA requirements, and Intel Cloud Finder provides an ideal tool to meet this requirement,” said Mario Mueller, ODCA chairman and vice president of IT infrastructure at BMW, in a prepared statement. “With enterprises ramping up cloud service usage based on ODCA usage models this year, the availability of this tool is perfectly timed for members’ expected deployments.”
