Kii is launching a turnkey carrier-grade mobile-backend-as-a-service (MBaaS) as a self-service cloud specifically designed for independent mobile apps developers.

Kii Cloud, as the company calls its new mobile-backend-as-a-service (a bit of a mouthful there, no?), empowers mobile applications developers to embed cloud services in their apps. According to the company, apps developers “require a cloud backend to understand user behavior, engagement and retention, for cross- and multi-platform apps and for monetization.” With an MBaaS, hundreds of hours of server programming can be reduced using a snap-in client SDK. In this way, Kii promises apps developers their applications can be up and running in minutes.

“For years, we’ve been working with some of the top carriers in the world on mobile app scalability, reliability and performance. Now, any mobile developer can plug our proven, industrial strength mobile backend into their app,” said Masanari Arai, CEO and co-founder of Kii, in a prepared statement.

Kii Cloud isn’t exactly a new offering, but the company previously only provided access to a handful of leading telecommunications companies and select application partners. Significant growth in the mobile apps user base and a continuing skyrocketing increase in interest in mobile apps development forced the company’s hand, and it has now opened up the MBaaS to a much broader foundation of partners and independent applications developers.

As part of Kii Cloud, developers have access to documentation, sample code, SDKs and support in a new developer portal that is outfitted with analytic dashboards and full API management. The company noted that developers can now visit the developer portal and drop the Kii Cloud SDK into new or existing apps. The SDK also provides apps with cloud user management, data management, analytics and monetization capabilities — all of which are available without having to rewrite a single line of server code, according to the company.
