Newly appointed Joyent CEO Scott Hammond says he's focusing on hybrid cloud computing.

Joyent on Thursday announced the appointment of Scott Hammond as the company’s new CEO.

The San Francisco-based cloud infrastructure and big data analytics company said the move to hire Hammond, a former Cisco Systems (CSCO) executive, will accelerate company growth by focusing on hybrid cloud computing, a rapidly growing market segment.

Hammond, who will replace Henry Wasik, said the company has a “massive market opportunity coming into the era of hybrid cloud adoption.”

“Cloud computing is still in its infancy,” he said. “It will explode as companies move to deploy the next generation of applications written for the cloud, in the cloud.”

Before joining Joyent, Hamond served as Cisco’s vice president of strategy and business development for the networking company’s Cloud and Systems Management Technology Group.

Previously, Scott served as CEO of newScale, Inc., which was acquired by Cisco in 2011 and Digital Market Inc., acquired by Agile Software in 1999.

Joyent received $85 million Series D in funding in January 2012, bringing the company’s total funding to $116 million.
