Cloud solution provider Hexagrid Computing has announced its entry in the Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA), the cloud and virtualization industry association dedicated to promoting the KVM hypervisor standard. And Hexagrid believes its VxDatacenter cloud infrastructure offering is a perfect fit.

Hexagrid’s VxDatacenter is designed to virtualize and manage commodity hardware as turnkey, customized IaaS clouds that use the KVM hypervisor included in all Linux distributions. The core of the company’s business is providing the software and support enterprises need to build and deploy public, private or hybrid clouds — indeed, Hexagrid’s motto is “It’s your cloud, own it.”

At the time of this announcement, the OVA counted more than 70 members. The alliance’s lineup includes open source superstars including Red Hat, Dell, Gluster and Vyatta, as the assembled vendors attempt to thwart VMware’s virtualization market dominance with open solutions. In the press release announcing Hexagrid’s membership, Red Hat VP Scott Crenshaw praised Hexagrid’s “innovative” approach to integrating services with KVM software.

Hexagrid may be smaller than some of the other providers forming the OVA. But if it’s going to take on the big boys, OVA knows there’s strength in numbers.
