F5 Networks (FFIV) is moving in on the hybrid cloud and software-defined data center markets with the release of its new hybrid service capabilities solutions. The new products will be unified under the Silverline banner and promise to offer extended security, optimization and availability services from hosted and managed infrastructure.

With the Silverline delivery platform, F5 is aiming to expand its current F5 Synthesis architecture to enable application services within customer’s deployment model of choice, including on-premise solutions and as-a-service solutions, according to the company. The need for architectural flexibility is becoming increasingly important as more companies look to harness a hybrid cloud environment for their applications in light of the growth of the mobile workforce.

“Organizations are looking for the ability to cost-effectively deliver applications without constraints, with specific IT components as a secondary concern. F5’s goal with the Synthesis framework is simply to remove barriers to deploying and scaling application services,” said Manny Rivelo, executive vice president of Strategic Solutions at F5, in a statement. “Our Silverline offerings will make core F5 technologies available as-a-service to help customers embrace hybrid deployments without forsaking the benefits they’ve seen in the data center.”

F5 is launching the Silverline portfolio with DDoS protection and security intelligence solutions, with the company planning to release additional as-a-service solutions at a later time. The F5 Silverline DDoS Protection offering will combine the company’s on-premise protection capabilities with the new cloud service and allow for customizable performance, according to the press release. The offering is expected to work seamlessly with F5’s Application Delivery Controller solutions to further enhance the DDoS protection solution, with tiered protection levels available based on each customer’s individual specifications. Secure Web Gateway Services and IP Intelligence Services will also be available through the tiered protection levels.

In September, F5 introduced complete interoperability between its BIG-IQ management platform and the VMware NSX network virtualization platform to give customers a single solution to manage the full suite of BIG-IP services within their NSX-based software-defined data centers. Earlier this year, the company expanded its channel investments with several new sales and technical sales accreditation programs in an effort to give channel partners the tools and skills they need to provide end users with differentiated application delivery solutions and services.
