California-based cloud security specialist CipherCloud has unveiled CipherCloud for Cloud Discovery, a solution that allows enterprises to analyze their cloud applications usage. In addition, enterprises can use CipherCloud for Cloud Discovery to evaluate a cloud application’s risk factors and calculate the app’s risk score based on Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) guidelines.

“Insight into cloud applications usage helps companies create intelligent data protection and user monitoring strategies. We are pleased to offer this capability free to the market,” Pravin Kothari, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of CipherCloud, said in a prepared statement.

CipherCloud for Cloud Discovery provides enterprises with automated risk testing, manual analysis and input from standards groups such as CSA, Forrester Research and TRUSTe, the company said. The solution also leverages Splunk‘s real-time intelligence software to deliver data in different formats.

CipherCloud for Cloud Discovery complies with U.S. privacy laws, and CipherCloud points out IT administrators can use this solution to analyze cloud applications across several categories, including:

  • Collaboration

  • Customer relationship management (CRM)

  • Finance

  • File sharing

  • HR

  • IT management

  • Productivity

CipherCloud offers solutions for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Box, Gmail, Microsoft (MSFT) Office 365 and Salesforce.com. The company claims its Open Platform helps enterprises manage cloud security risks and cloud data compliance.
