In 2020, Dell Technologies launched a set of moonshot goals for 2030 to amplify its social impact worldwide. The company stated that the goals were the lynchpin of the company’s 2030 Progress Made Real plan and were grounded in the belief that technology and data combined with human spirit are, and will always be, positive forces in the world.

“Unlocking the power of data will advance humanity more than any other force over the next decade,” said Michael Dell chairman and CEO. “We are committed to making that power broadly available to communities around the world so we can all move forward together.”

The three moonshot pillars of the social impact goals are advancing sustainability, cultivating inclusion and transforming lives.

Advancing Sustainability

Moonshot Goal: By 2030, for every product a customer buys, Dell will reuse or recycle an equivalent product. One hundred percent of their packaging will be made from recycled or renewable material. More than half of product content will be made from recycled or renewable material.

Other sustainability goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, sourcing 75% of electricity from renewable resources (100% by 2040), reducing the energy of their entire product portfolio by 80% and delivering future-ready skills development for workers in their supply chain.

Cultivating Inclusion

Moonshot Goal: By 2030, 50% of Dell’s workforce and 40% of its global people leaders will be women.

Among their other inclusion goals are having Blacks/African Americans and Hispanic/Latinos in 25% of their U.S. workforce and 15% of their people leader positions; having 50% of employees participate in employee resource groups to drive social impact;  having 95% of employees participate in annual foundational learning on key topics such as unconscious bias, harassment, microaggression and privilege; and having 50% of the people being empowered by social and education initiatives be girls, women or underrepresented groups.

Transforming Lives

Moonshot Goal: With its technology and scale, Dell will advance health, education and economic initiatives to deliver enduring results for one billion people.

Some of its other transformation goals are ensuring that 50% of those empowered by Dell’s social and educational initiatives are girls, women or underrepresented groups; using their expertise and technology to help 1,000 nonprofit partners digitally transform to better serve their communities; and having 75% of Dell employees participate in giving or volunteerism in their communities.
