Savvis Names Amazon Web Services Vet as Cloud Services VP

Cloud infrastructure and hosted service provider Savvis has added Amazon Web Services veteran Daniel Patton as VP and general manager of Cloud Services. And in more partner-related news, former Microsoftie James R. Parker is the new senior VP of Sales in the Americas.

In order: In the new role as VP of Cloud Services, Patton will be responsible for the development and growth strategy for the Savvis Symphony cloud platform, according to the press release. In his previous role at Amazon Web Services, Patton was responsible for promoting cloud adoption amongst SMBs and enterprises alike. He also managed sales teams for IBM and Rational Software.

“I am excited to join Savvis and work with the team that brought the first enterprise-class cloud to market,” Patton said in a prepared statement. “Enterprise clients require a well-performing and secure cloud platform with solid service-level agreements in order to run their production applications. Savvis Symphony is that platform, and I look forward to driving its growth.”

Meanwhile, new senior VP of Sales in the Americas Parker comes from a similar role at Microsoft. As general manager of Microsoft’s enterprise and partner group for Central Eastern Europe, he reportedly oversaw $1 billion in sales and services. At Savvis, he’ll be responsible for all of the company’s sales channels in North and South America, and it’s obvious that the cloud provider is hoping he can bring similar momentum.

Noticeably absent from Savvis’ press materials is any mention of a partner strategy update — something TalkinCloud been wondering about since CenturyLink acquired the company earlier in 2011. But given that both Patton and Parker are less than a day in their roles as you read this, it may be too soon to expect any major news on that front.
