Axcient, a business continuity provider focused on VARs and MSPs, has made four strategic hires and is still seeking a head of people and a VP of sales, according to CEO Justin Moore. The latest hires have previous experience at Dell KACE, Cisco Systems and WebEx, and Hewlett-Packard. The key message from Moore, “We’ve been really fortunate to attract people who have worked on businesses that have achieved incredible scale.” So where is Axcient, which also offers cloud and BDR (backup and disaster recovery) solutions, heading next?

Generally speaking, it sounds like Axcient has spent most of 2012 hiring executives who have worked at companies that went through IPOs (Initial Public Offerings) or built major business divisions at Global 2000 companies. Axcient now has about 120 to 130 employees, and is on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing privately held companies. The company has also raised more than $30 million in venture capital. I believe the last round of funding, totaling $15.5 million, came in 2011. “We’re no longer a startup,” said Moore. “We’re a growth company and we need to make sure we’ve got the right talent” for repeatable, optimized services that scale, he notes.

Axcient has a three-year growth plan in place, and the company hopes to maintain triple-digit growth rates. Moore declined to speculate on whether Axcient would pursue an IPO or company sale over the long haul. Instead, Moore says he’s heads-down on executing the company’s business plan.

Axient’s latest management team hires include:

  • VP of Business Development Ken Sims: Most recently Sims was VP of sales at Dell KACE, where he was part of a team that grew revenue 450 percent in two years. Sims earlier was VP of marketing and business development at Oblix, which Oracle acquired.

  • Senior Director of Demand Generation and Direct Marketing Joe Schwartz: He previously led digital marketing and demand generation for Cisco’s Collaboration Software Group, including a key growth-centric role at WebEx.

  • Director of Sales Operations Ann Neir: Another Cisco veteran, Neir was senior manager of worldwide sales, strategy & planning. In another Cisco position, she helped achieve a two-year, 220% growth in deal management, Axcient indicated.

  • Director of Channel Marketing Joan Morales:He was formerly manager of global channel development and strategy for Hewlett-Packard at the international level. Prior to that, he worked for HP, Dell and Checkpoint Systems within their respective EMEA organizations.

MSPmentor has been tracking multiple MSP- and channel-oriented executive moves in recent weeks, including executive updates at Datto, Intronis and LogMeIn. But the moves don’t end there. We expect to pull back the curtain a bit more on additional moves the first week of 2013 or sooner.
