Avaya Buys RADVISION for Video Collaboration

Avaya, the unified communications (UC) provider, has officially acquired RADVISION, a videoconferencing and telepresence technologies provider over IP and wireless networks.

RADVISION is bringing in an entire suite of videoconferencing products for SMBs, enterprise companies and managed services providers to the table. The acquisition also gives Avaya a strong customer base for telepresence technology, as RADVISION has been selling its videoconferencing solution to Fortune 500 companies and international MSPs for roughly two decades.

Avaya plans to integrate the RADVISION enterprise video solution into its own Aura UC platform. Doing so, according to Avaya, will give its current and prospective business customers a “compelling and differentiated solution” to help them leverage video collaboration within their own business networks more quickly. According to Avaya President and CEO Kevin Kennedy, the newly integrated solution will give businesses a high-definition (HD) video collaboration solution that is both cost-effective and easy to use. There’s even a mobile device component involved, as RADVISION’s videoconferencing solution can plug and play into several different mobile devices, including the Apple iPad and all Google Android mobile devices.

“With this acquisition we will seek to extend videoconferencing to any device, anytime, anywhere, making it as easy as a phone call, seizing the opportunity to deliver a fully-integrated solution and architecture that we believe sets us apart from the competition,” Kennedy said in a prepared statement.

Remember that Avaya sold its own managed video services to GlowPoint in July of last year. Clearly the UC provider was on the hunt for what it considered to be an upgrade to its previous service and a better fit for its current business customer base. Now the company appears to have found that with RADVISION.
