VMware Launches SAP Virtualization Migration with HP

In the data center space, virtualization is the name of the game. The VAR Guy knows that, and he also knows how much end users can benefit from a little upfront collaboration on vendors’ part. That’s the idea behind VMware’s latest solution set that will enable customers using SAP to migrate to virtualized infrastructure powered by VMware and HP. Read on for the details and The VAR Guy’s take …

According to VMware, the solution allows end users to virtualize their new SAP implementation and take advantage of the benefits of IT as a Service. VMware worked with HP to ensure vSphere runs flawlessly on HP’s Converged Infrastructure, thus creating an ideal platform that integrates SAP software onto VMware and saving both time and money. The VAR Guy knows virtualizing business applications is an increasingly popular way to save costs and cut back on legacy hardware, so there’s probably some truth to those claims.

VARs and service providers working in the virtualization or data center space — or those working with SAP customers — have been given yet another arrow in their quiver to fight off data center sprawl and the rising costs of on-premise solutions. Details on all VMware’s application virtualization solutions are here, and SAP’s EcoHub Marketplace details are here.

This isn’t the first vendor collaboration combination we’ve seen in the last couple months. Most recently, we covered the VCE’s moves with major distributors and VMware’s other multivendor approach with NetApp and Cisco, bringing FlexPod to Avnet. Collaboration is even happening outside the virtualization scene, with Polycom’s unified communications moves and its creation of the Open Visual Communication Consortium. The VAR Guy fully expects to see even more major collaboration on all fronts as the year rolls on.
