Lenovo Launches Customizable Android Enterprise App Shop

Lenovo has launched its own enterprise application store for Android devices, bringing a world of safe, pre-scanned and unique applications to business-savvy Android-users. This is the same thing Cisco Systems did, but is it just another app store, or is Lenovo doing something special? The VAR Guy weighs in …

Lenovo, detecting the “influx of personal and mobile devices in the workplace,” saw a need for an application store that made sense for IT managers and Android business users alike. And so, enter Lenovo’s Enterprise App Shop, a world full of productivity apps already cherry-picked and ready to help you get work done.

What’s more, Lenovo’s Enterprise App Shop ensures a level of security — something that shouldn’t be overlooked in the enterprise world. Lenovo promises all apps in the Enterprise App Shop are free of malware.Plus, Lenovo allows custom management of the App Shop, letting IT admins choose which apps can be made available to their user base. Customization makes The VAR Guy’s heart throb. Naturally, volume purchasing of apps is also available, should a company have a fleet of tablets that need some serious app-ification. The Lenovo Enterprise App Shop also allows the publication of “private” or corporate applications, which are made only available for internal use by company employees.

Bigger picture? Our resident blogger thinks that, while Lenovo’s app store is certainly not novel, it’s likely the shape of things to come on the Android landscape (however much Google would hate to admit it). But if you’re tied into a vendor (or just prefer one), custom app stores such as Lenovo’s is a great way to ensure the best-in-class apps are available for mobile employees, in addition to enabling VARs to put security-minded companies at ease when using Android.
