What MSPs Can Learn from the Boy Scouts of America

As the IT channel watches storm after storm slam into small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the Northeast, it may be behoove us to learn how the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) would prepare for its data and backup disaster recovery (BDR) customers.

The BSA would be prepared — something we’ve stressed over and over and over again on MSPmentor. Is it time to listen to our advice, or have you been listening to it all along?

The Boy Scout’s motto is simple: Be prepared. In other words, a Boy Scout should always be in a state of readiness in mind and in body to do your duty.

This state of mind can be and should be applied to managing BDR customers. Are you ready for an upcoming storm? Do you have customer contact information available? Do customers have your contact information handy? Would you consider yourself as a Nomadic MSP?

If you find yourself scrambling during a storm, you weren’t prepared. Stay ahead of the game by paying attention to what’s going on around you. Learn how you can assist SMBs in frigid weather conditions. Stay in front of winter storms. Most importantly, though, be prepared.
