New MVNO Offers Push-to-Talk

Soon-to-be-launched mobile virtual operator (MVNO) Amp’d Mobile will use Kodiak Networks Real-Time Exchange (RTX) System to deliver push-to-talk (PTT) services with quality of service.

Targeting the youth market ages 18 to 25 with an array of entertainment services, Amp’d Mobile has chosen an EV-DO 3G network to deliver exclusive content and a proprietary user interface. It hopes PTT will give it an edge.

“The value of PTT service has already been established for business users,” says Marina Amoroso, analyst of wireless and mobile services for Yankee Group. “However, Amp’d Mobile’s combined offering of PTT and high speed data is a unique approach to tackling and capturing the high value consumer, and one that will help them differentiate from other MVNOs and service providers.”

Amp’d Mobile is the ninth wireless operator worldwide to select the Kodiak RTX System for its PTT services, after Europes Orange S.A., Alltel Communications, and several regional operators. The solution also enables advanced voice services, including presence and the ability for users to indicate their availability to receive calls via “available”, “do not disturb”, silent mode” and “offline” status flags.
