Distribution Watch: Synnex, Tech Data, Avnet

Welcome to the latest (and may we say, possibly the greatest, in our humble opinion) edition of Distribution Watch. This week we’ve got news from Synnex (SNX), Tech Data (TECD) and Avnet (AVT).

Synnex: The distributor is now offering the MoGo Chimera tablet smart case from Mobelisk, which allows enterprises to outfit their tablet of choice with a protective shell featuring customizable end caps. Mobelisk has partnered with Bolt On Solutions to provide users with a mobile point of sale (POS) solution designed to transform consumer tablets into secure mobile enterprise solutions customized for company needs.

MoGo Chimera encapsulates a 7-inch or 8-inch tablet to turn them into POS solutions or whatever is needed. Once the customer chooses a tablet, Mobelisk adds modular end caps to each device, including RFID scanners, barcode scanners and magnetic card readers. The case also includes an additional battery to keep the device running through multiple work shifts, according to the company.

“The MoGo Chimera makes tablet computing functionally and economically viable for a wide range of businesses that can benefit from the advantages of mobile computing,” said Dennis Hamann, Mobelisk CEO, in a statement. “We are now shipping MoGo Chimera solutions to customers in the commercial construction, fleet management, transportation and logistics, specialty beverage and landscape maintenance fields.”

Tech Data: Tech Data announced a new distribution agreement with Kanex this week, which will allow the company to distribute Apple (APPL) and iOS connectivity solutions to its North and South American channel partners.

The agreement will allow Tech Data to provide Apple resellers, retailers, carrier stores and SBM business solution providers with Kanex for Apple and iOS connectivity solutions as well as KanaxPro A/V solutions, according to the company. Tech Data recently signed a similar distribution agreement with Kanex for the United Kingdom.

"We are excited to add Kanex solutions to our [Systems and Peripherals] portfolio," said Wendy Maurer-Linsky, vice president, Product Marketing, Systems & PeripheralsIT at Tech Data. "Kanex is a strategic addition to our offering of Apple products and accessories, enabling our solution providers to maximize their business opportunities and provide end users with more connectivity options."

Avnet: Avnet Embedded entered into a distribution agreement with server and storage solutions provider EchoStreams Innovative Solutions, allowing the company to provide American channel partners with purpose-built server and storage platforms for their businesses. EchoStream’s offerings include its lineup of DURAStreams platforms and FLACHEStreams products, as well as the GRIDStreams and SCALEStreams compute and storage solutions.

“EchoStreams takes conventional off-the-shelf components and packages them to meet the different usage models of various vertical markets,” said John Salemme, vice president and general manager of Avnet Embedded. “These unique, purpose-built platforms enable our mutual customers with limited IT infrastructure resources to leverage the economy of scale of mass-produced components, while enjoying the benefits of a highly flexible or customized solution.”

That’s the end of Distribution Watch for now, but we’ll be sure to have much more news for you next week, we promise. In the meantime, have a great weekend, and keep on distributing.
