Speaking of Google Cloud …
Google Cloud has added Anthos, its on-premises cloud platform, to Google Distributed Cloud.
The company debuted the latter last year as competition to Microsoft Azure Stack and AWS Outposts.
The Anthos capabilities available in Google Distributed Cloud right now apply to VMware vSphere and Anthos bare-metal services.
Also, Google Cloud is now referring to Anthos as on-premises GDC Virtual.
Organizations don’t always opt for strict public cloud. They need alternatives for reasons related to compliance, privacy and confidentiality. As a result, the public cloud providers — anxious to compete for business that might otherwise go to IBM Cloud, VMware Cloud or a similar vendor — have in recent years brought private cloud platforms to their portfolios.
