What Do CIOs Want From VARs in 2013?

What the heck do CIOs want from VARs, IT service providers and MSPs in 2013? The VAR Guy will pose that question later this month to Ralph Salomon, CISO, SAP; Mark Settle, CIO, BMC; Stephen Windsor, CIO, Maddrix; and Patty Hatter, CIO, McAfee. Indeed, our resident blogger — or one of his handlers — will moderate a CIO panel featuring those experts during McAfee Focus 2012. So what will the panel cover? Here are some clues.

The VAR Guy concedes: He has roughly 10 carefully prepared questions in his back pocket. Plus, our resident blogger will direct attendee questions — culled from Twitter — toward the panel.

For now, here are the two most important questions:

  1. What types of channel partners (VARs, MSPs, etc.) have earned a long-term seat at the table with you — and why?

  2. What types of partners have lost their seat at your table in recent years and why?

No doubt, CIOs are rethinking their solution provider mix as they weigh trends like cloud computing, mobility, social media and more. Plus, CIOs are likely listening to different internal business leaders these days — such as chief marketing officers who want Web-based promotional campaigns launched yesterday.

As life changes within the office for CIOs, how might those executives shake up their partner mix? The VAR Guy will go searching for answers during McAfee Focus 2012.
