Continuum RMM Platform Adds a Mac Agent
It may still be a Windows world, but more and more Macs are making their way inside the doors of businesses. So it’s no surprise that remote monitoring and management vendors have been adding managed services support for Macs to their platforms. Last month LabTech Software trumpeted their support for Macs in their LabTech 2012 platform. And today Continuum (formerly Zenith RMM) has announced support for Mac in its RMM platform.
Continuum says the Mac agent application, combined with Continuum’s network operations center (NOC) and virtual service desk will enable partners to broaden management of customer devices from the Continuum portal and LogMeIn interfaces. Charlotte, NC-based MSP Seedspark LLC has already onboarded 20 Macs from its existing customer base and says that the support has been a great way to tap new revenue from existing customers. It also gives it an edge when working with new customers where Mac support is a requirement.
Continuum acknowledges that “Windows is still the primary operating system for business [but] Mac usage is catapulting its way into the workplace.” Mac’s share of enterprise computer sales grew 43.8 percent during the third quarter of 2011 compared to overall enterprise PC growth of 4.8 percent, according to Needham & Co., as cited by Continuum. Subsequent quarters have shown similar growth patterns, the company said.
Continuum first offered the Mac beta version via download on April 30. The Mac agent will be offered free of charge to Continuum partners for the first three months from June 1 through August 31. The tool includes includes asset registration, disk space monitoring, and remote management capabilities with LogMeIn Pro. MSPs can also allow their clients to access their Mac with LogMeIn Pro via a web portal.
Several MSP-centric software companies, such as Kaseya, have long supported Macs.
