Samsung, VMware Team to Add Virtualization to Galaxy Devices

Mobile virtualization seems to be the future, as more and more consumers and business users demand access to virtualized desktops from their mobile devices. Samsung has teamed up with VMware to provide those features built in and ready to go in the latest and greatest Android devices. Here’s the breakdown on the digital revolution …

The partnership between the two companies is set to add VMware View and Horizon mobile technology to the latest Galaxy line of Samsung Android devices, including the Galaxy S II phone and the Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch and 8.9-inch tablets. What makes the partnership unique is Samsung and VMware are providing this integration in a way that meets corporate IT security needs with tools that manage mobile virtualized environments, privacy and data settings that also meet the corporate compliance demands.

The pairing of Samsung and VMware is one worth watching, considering there is no true leader in the business tablet space. But since VMware has so much clout in the channel and the enterprise, it’s very possible Samsung’s tablets could end up on more desks in corporations where virtualization is key. The partnership also could signal a new trend of virtualization companies teaming up with tablet vendors — it shouldn’t go unnoticed that Citrix was a launch partner with Lenovo on the ThinkPad Tablet and Citrix’s Mobile Receiver application is now preloaded on the ThinkPad Tablet. We’ll keep watch as the professional tablet scene gains more momentum.
