Samsung Debuts Communication Compact Manager for SMBs

PRESS RELEASE — Ridgefield Park, NJ – May 24, 2016 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today introduced the Samsung Communication Manager Compact (SCM Compact), an ‘all-in-one’ IP communications solution that provides small and medium businesses (SMB) with a simple, cost-effective way to gain powerful, enterprise-class collaboration capabilities for today’s increasingly mobile workforce.

With support for up to 512 users, the SCM Compact comes with the features SMBs rely on for advanced communications — including cost-effective security, an embedded API server, and seamless mobility technology.

“Small and medium-sized businesses are evolving their infrastructure to gain the sophisticated collaboration technologies that have typically only been available to their larger competitors,” said John D’Annunzio, General Manager of Samsung Wireless Enterprise. “The SCM Compact was built specifically with SMB owners in mind, providing a mobile communications platform that prioritizes ease-of-use, security and cost-savings.”

Enabling Seamless, Next-Gen Mobility

The SCM Compact drives greater efficiency and productivity through Samsung’s innovative mobile technology that eliminates the boundaries between wired, Wi-Fi and cellular networks, helping employees stay connected to business communications while in the office or on the go.{ad}

With the included Smart Handover feature, the SCM Compact can seamlessly handover smartphone calls from cellular networks to a business’ internal Wi-Fi network (and vice versa) without any call disruption. Samsung’s unique technology uses the voice path of a Wi-Fi network instead of the more commonly-used data path, improving voice quality and reducing costs for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) workers.

When paired with Samsung’s WeVoIP mobile application, the SCM Compact enables highly-mobile workers to turn their smartphone into a fully-enabled business phone using their business extension line and maintaining all key deskphone functions, including conferencing, call transfer, and call recording.

Workers can also seamlessly move a call from a Samsung desk phone to a wireless device (and vice versa) with the push of a button.

Embedded Essentials for SMBs

With 66 percent of SMBs planning to adopt or upgrade to a collaboration platform1, more SMBs require an IP communications solution that cost-effectively scales and includes essential functions for collaboration. The SCM Compact achieves this through an open Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) platform that works with existing systems—and embeds capabilities generally not built into …

…most SMB solutions.

Key embedded capabilities include:

  • Built-in Session Border Controller (SBC) for Cost-Effective Security: Mobile device security is one of the top challenges facing small businesses2, according to AMI Partners Research, making SBCs essential for SMB communications. The integrated SBC delivers secure and convenient SIP communications by eliminating the need for remote workers to dial into their network through a VPN, and keeping IP addresses private while protecting networks from DDoS attacks.

  • Embedded API Server for Custom Apps: This enables support for numerous third party APIs, so SMBs can quickly deploy and integrate a variety of business applications, such as trading systems, databases or Customer Relationship Management (CRM), without the need to purchase an external link server. This provides a more cost-effective and faster application development process.

  • Survivable Branch Gateway for 24/7 Operations: If IP connections are lost between a data center and remote offices due to a network failure, the SCM Compact can sustain SIP communications for continuous routing of local gateway traffic, and delivery of high-quality voice and telephony functionality. Also, businesses can hot swap option cards without system shutdowns.

“When looking to upgrade or install new platforms, many SMBs want the sophisticated applications or mobile functionalities used by their larger competitors,” said Steve Sava, president of Perigee Business Technologies, a certified Samsung business partner. “The Samsung Communications Manager Compact gives us the option to offer industry-standard SIP solutions that not only offer the eye-appeal that customers look for, but also deliver all the advanced functionality of a mobility-enabled platform.”
