We caught up with founder and CEO Chris Coulson to answer a few questions about him and his business.

Channel Futures: What was the single biggest technology or business decision that drove your company’s growth in 2019? How did it do so?

Chris Coulson: The single best technology decision Coulson Technologies made in 2019 was an upgrade to our existing customers’ security product. By implementing quarterly quality control surveys and meetings that allow our clients to openly express suggestions, we allow ourselves the opportunity to continually assess our processes and improve them based on our clients needs.

Our single best business decision for the year of 2019 was advancing our time and management pricing for our current client base, to monthly reoccurring payments. This strategic business plan has substantially lowered the break-fix mentality and has allowed us the opportunity to better align with our customers needs in a consistent manor.

CF: If you could go back to one technological point in time, what would it be and why?

CC: I cannot say that I would go back, but if there was a “safer” time with technology, I would have to say that it was the time of bulletin board systems. The immediate knowledge at my fingertips is certainly a great and exciting feature to our technological advancements but it allows for more “bad guys” to sneak into our systems.

CF: If applicable, why are you a business owner instead of working for someone else? What is the allure of entrepreneurship to you?

CC: The allure of entrepreneurship is having the ability to love what I do, while ensuring my clients [get] solutions that meet all their needs. Every business need is unique to each business. Where a general solution is not possible, out-of-the-box thinking is needed for creative solutions that fix the problems but do not break the bank. I made the definite decision of working for myself, when I was presented, time after time, with the same story of the larger companies expecting their clients to buy new rather than fix their current problems. When I see an issue, I examine many avenues to ensure the issue can be addressed in the most cost-effective way for my clients.
