IT security vendor Sophos will add email security to its Sophos Cloud offering with the acquisition of Reflexion Networks, a provider of email security, archiving, encryption and business continuity services.

The acquisition is expected to allow Sophos to add enterprise-grade email security into the Sophos Cloud management console, effectively creating a simpler way for enterprises to monitor their corporate communications, according to the announcement.

Sophos, which launched its cloud management platform in 2013, said the acquisition will form a more complete protection solution for users, said Bill Lucchini, senior vice president of Sophos Cloud Security Group.

“The Reflexion platform has been built from the ground up to run in the cloud at scale and will strengthen and accelerate our ability to offer email protection when and where the customer wants it,” said Lucchini, in a statement. “As we integrate this technology with Sophos Cloud it will complement our Sophos Secure Email Appliance giving IT professionals the choice of a cloud-based solution, or an on-premise solution.”

The cost of the deal was not disclosed. All 50 of Reflexion’s employees are expected to make the jump to Sophos with the acquisition, according to Scott Barlow, Reflexion’s vice president of sales. All of the company’s other services, including archiving, email encryption and business continuity services will also remain under Sophos, with the two companies’ partner programs also expected to merge, according to CRN.

Lucchini said execs in Sophos have had their eyes on Reflexion since he joined the company in 2013, and the acquisition will finally allow both companies to realize a joint mission of bringing cloud-based email security and to help Reflexion accelerate its company vision.

The Woburn, Massachusetts-based company currently has more than 17,000 customers worldwide and sells its services through more than 2,000 managed service providers each month.
