JumpCloud: Easing Remote Windows, Linux Server Management?

JumpCloud is a cloud-based management platform for Linux servers — and soon Windows servers. But how exactly does the cloud service work? JumpCloud CEO Rajat Bhargava offers insights in this sponsored Talkin’ Cloud FastChat Video.

Bhargava is positioning JumpCloud for IT professionals and DevOps team members who have to manage SSH accounts, patches, security and more. The concept is rather simple: Use the cloud-based mananagement and server automation tool, and you’ll gain time to innovate while slashing your time on daily IT administration chores, JumpCloud claims.

The company certainly has been busy. JumpCloud joined the Amazon Web Services partner network in October 2013 to help automate server security. And in January 2014, JumpCloud raised $3 million to help fuel growth.

CEO Bhargava is no stranger to startups. He has previously built and managed multiple companies — many of which were successfully acquired. One key example in the IT service provider market is StillSecure, a network access control provider that works closely with MSPs.

Where does the company go from here? The cloud service is live but I think JumpCloud faces at least two key questions on the channel partner front:

  • Can JumpCloud carve a unique niche for itself within the crowded market for on-premises and cloud-based server management tools?

  • Will JumpCloud catch on with cloud integrators, VARs and MSPs that want to remotely manage server workloads — regardless of where the servers are located?

Talkin’ Cloud will be watching JumpCloud closely for near- and longer-term answers.
