Pure Storage is taking on “legacy” storage as a service (STaaS) vendors with a new offering in its Evergreen portfolio.

The company has updated Evergreen with an Evergreen//One storage as a service and Evergreen Flex subscription.

Pure Storage says that legacy STaaS vendors have “packaged the same capex solutions on an opex basis, ignoring what it means to deliver a true service.”

Now it says it’s disrupting the market with a commitment to pay its customers’ power and rack space costs. The vendor says the new offering includes flexible financing, enhanced resilience, and AI-powered service capabilities.

Paying for Power and Rack Space with Storage as a Service

Pure Storage says it wants to eliminate the challenges of managing rising electricity costs and rack unit space. As such, it will pay for its customers’ power and rack space through an Evergreen One storage as a service and Evergreen Flex subscription.

Customers can make an upfront, one-time payment directly as cash or via service credits. It is based on kilowatt per hour (kWh) and rack unit (RU) fixed rates, and is proportional to the customer’s geographic location and contract size.

Pure Storage promised to pay power and rack, and expanded guarantees to support customers that opt to own their storage via an Evergreen Forever subscription.

The Power and Space Efficiency Guarantee also helps customers report more accurately with transparent measurement of actual watts per tebibyte (TiB). If the guaranteed watts/TiB or TiB/rack is not met, Pure Storage will cover the tab. The Energy Efficiency guarantee is already available as an Evergreen One SLA.

Pure1 Platform Provides Insight for Partners

Alongside storage as a service, the vendor is launching new No Data Migration, Zero Data Loss, and Power and Space Efficiency guarantees. Its new data resilience offerings also include a new disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) solution, Pure Protect DRaaS.

Partners will also have access to invoicing and subscription data via the Pure1 API, where they can integrate financial information such as invoice IDs, key dates, terms, and POs to streamline customers’ procurement processes,” she said. “The expanded guarantees and SLAs for power and space efficiency, no data migration, and zero data loss will provide partners with a competitive advantage while supporting their customers’ critical data resilience and sustainability priorities.”
