Spiceworks Lets SMBs Deploy Google Apps, Rackspace Cloud Services

Spiceworks, the free remote monitoring tool, now supports Google Apps management and Rackspace Cloud server, storage, and hosted e-mail administration, giving channel partners, MSPs and SMBs a potential path to the cloud.

According to Spiceworks’ own research, IT pros at small and midsized organizations are earmarking 26 percent of their budgets for cloud and hosted services. Helping customers make that move seems like a natural move for the company.

Here’s the skinny on the cloud services now available to Spiceworks users, as per the press release:

  • Google Apps for Business Management – Spiceworks says that service providers can manage an entire enterprise’s Google Apps deployment, including Gmail. And if you want to move users from the free Google Apps to the premium Google Apps for Business, you can buy the accounts and shunt them over, all from within Spiceworks.

  • Rackspace Cloud Server & Hosted E-mail Management – Users have been able to purchase and administer Rackspace Cloud e-mail accounts via Spiceworks since 2010. But now MSPs can use the platform to provision Rackspace Cloud Servers, too.

  • Spiceworks Backup to the Rackspace Cloud – Service providers now have the ability to backup their Spiceworks installation to their Rackspace Cloud File account, meaning that if worst comes to worst, a company’s settings can be recovered quickly and cleanly.

This isn’t the first time Spiceworks has generated chatter around helping MSPs become cloud service providers. But TalkinCloud is definitely intrigued by the prospect of giving SMBs a way to make the cloud jump with the help of their trusted partners.
