The Radicati Group released the results of this year’s Market Quadrant for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM). Leaders include AirWatch, MobileIron, Citrix (CTXS), Good Technology, Blackberry (BBRY) and SAP.

The Palo Alto, California-based IT research firm’s report’s results were similar to those in Gartner’s recent Magic Quadrant report on EMM. Not surprisingly, it too excluded Microsoft (MSFT) from its list.

Radicati defines an EMM solution in the following way (similar to Gartner’s definition):

“EMM solutions — provide businesses with the ability to secure and manage the mobile devices used by their employees. EMM solutions are aimed at smartphone and tablet devices and should support multiple mobile operating systems.”

Radicati believes the core components of EMM include: mobile device management (MDM), mobile application management (MAM), mobile security and mobile content management.

The report also points out how EMM solutions are available as on-premises software, cloud-based services or hybrid solutions.

And now the results: Radicati’s Market Quadrant for EMM

Radicati’s analysts evaluate EMM vendors on two criteria: market share (based on installed base) and functionality (see core components of EMM above).

Top Players

These vendors are leading the market “with products that have built up large customer bases.” To avoid falling from this pedestal, Radicati believes companies in this quadrant should fight complacency with product innovation.

Companies ranking in this year’s Top Players Quadrant include: AirWatch, MobileIron, Citrix, Good Technology, Blackberry and SAP.

Trail Blazers

Trail Blazers have the technology part down, but have not yet built up a large customer base. To overthrow the market’s current leaders, these companies must continue to advance themselves through effective marketing and better awareness.

Companies ranking in this year’s Trail Blazers Quadrant: IBM (IBM), Sophos, Symantec (SYMC) and Tangoe.

Specialists

This quadrant is made up two types of companies: emerging players and established vendors that offer a niche. Emerging players are still new to the industry and are still developing technology and strategy.

Companies ranking in this year’s Specialists Quadrant: SOTIKapersky Lab, TrendMicro and McAfee.

Mature Players

These vendors have large, mature installed bases of customers, “but no longer set the pace for the rest of the industry.” In short, Radicati says these companes were once at the top of their game, but they now have some work to do.

Companies ranking in this year’s Mature Players Quadrant: None.

Radicati’s Market Overview for EMM

By the end of 2014, the report says worldwide EMM revenues will total $1.4 billion — but the numbers will only go up from there, reaching more than $5.7 billion in 2018. This represents an average annual growth rate of 43 percent over the next four years.
