Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright (1943-2008)
The VAR Guy was saddened to hear Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright died today from cancer. Totally depressing, but thank you for the memories, Mr. Wright.
Around 1985, The VAR Guy purchased his first CD player… along with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Amazing.
For most of 1988, The VAR Guy ditched high school and spent considerable time at Pink Floyd’s Momentary Lapse of Reason world tour. Sixth-row seats at Giant Stadium in New York. Unbelievable. Sure, there was no Roger Waters. But the rest of the band played on.
And Richard was fantastic. The obvious choice for today’s video clip is “Wish You Were Here.” But The VAR Guy decided to go a different course, and instead chose “Any Colour You Like,” which has extensive keyboards.
What a loss. Depressing day.
A very sad day indeed, So much talent Richard will be greatly missed by all Pink Floyd fans worldwide.
I will be spending my day going back in time listening to my Pink Floyd Albums.
RIP Richard
son of a bitch another one bites the dust, No more Pink Floyd
Brice: Floyd was done long before this sad day. The “band” (including Roger Waters) had only played together once over the past 20 years or so. You can still catch Roger Waters and David Gilmour when they do their respective solo tours.
And, the best kept secret for Floyd fans in the US: Check out http://www.themachinelive.com
Bad and sad news. So bad they will never play togheter.
Richard Wright will be sorely missed. A day of mourning for Pink Floyd fans worldwide. You can still get your Floyd on with bands like Australian Pink Floyd, and Floydian Slip,(both astronomically better than the previously mentioned “The Machine”) but it will never be the same again.
I will also be listening with a heavy heart to as many Floyd (especially early) songs as possible. For what its worth I have seen the Machine plenty of times and they are the closest you can get to the real thing and I did see Australian Pink Floyd and they were not even in the same league as the Machine.
Australian Pink Floyd was hired by David Gilmour himself to play at his 50th birthday party. The “machines'” lead singer is not even close. (Not to mention they have sold out Royal Albert Hall) A performance, by the way, attended by Roger Waters. If you think “the machine” is better, then you must be affiliated with them or you’re tone deaf. ( a third possibility being that all your “taste” is in your mouth.)And no I am not an Aussie. I am a 47 year old American, who has been a Floyd Fan since 1971. Remember, you started it… I just finished it.
Kevin: How’s this for ironic. I will be in Australia while Australian Pink Floyd is here touring in the US. Major bummer I’m going to miss them while they’re in the States.
