Palo Alto Networks says its $156 million Bridgecrew acquisition means Prisma Cloud customers will have security embedded in the foundation of their cloud infrastructure.

Bridgecrew is a developer-first cloud security company. Expect Palo Alto’s acquisition to close by April 30.

The Bridgecrew acquisition will enable “shift left” security, Palo Alto Networks said. Shift left means means moving security sooner in the development process. Prisma Cloud will become the first cloud security platform to deliver security across the full application life cycle.

Prisma Cloud serves more than 1,800 customers, including 70% of the Fortune 100.

“We are happy to share insight on the value to partners following the completion of the deal,” he said.

‘Shift Left’ Pioneer

Bridgecrew, a pioneer in shift left, focuses on infrastructure as code (IaC). That’s where you codify infrastructure configuration during development. Its IaC security platform offers developers and DevOps teams a systematic way to enforce infrastructure security standards throughout the development life cycle.

The proposed acquisition will enable Prisma Cloud to provide developers with security assessment and enforcement capabilities throughout the DevOps process.

“We have dedicated ourselves to building developer-first tools that bridge the gap between developers and cloud security,” said Idan Tendler, Bridgecrew‘s co-founder and CEO. “By joining Palo Alto Networks, we will be able to bring codified cloud security to the developer community on a wider scale. We look forward to working together to continue shifting cloud security left.”

Prisma Access 2.0

Also Tuesday, Palo Alto Networks introduced Prisma Access 2.0, a cloud-delivered security platform to securely enable work from anywhere.

Prisma Access 2.0 introduces enhancements, including:

  • Self-healing infrastructure for optimal experience.

  • Machine learning-powered security to help prevent attacks in real time.

  • Cloud secure web gateway (SWG) capabilities regardless of user location.

  • A reimagined cloud management experience.

“Our partner ecosystem serves some 85,000-plus customers who are transitioning or will transition from on-premises firewall solutions to cloud-delivered network protection,” Jones said. “Prisma Access is something every customer should be looking at as they secure a dynamic workforce using cloud-based security postures.”

Partners are embracing Prisma Access to become cybersecurity experts,” he said.

“We’re investing in, enabling and certifying these partners to do that,” Jones said. “And it’s one reason Prisma Access is among the fastest-growing businesses with our partners. Through Prisma Access 2.0, partners will be offering a leading, cloud-delivered access solution that will help them differentiate themselves against their competitors.”
