Barracuda Networks (CUDA) revealed its new Data Protection Plus lineup this week, built to help users access, retain and share critical data from any device. DPP includes several enhancements to the Barracuda portfolio, as well as the acquisition of C2C Systems, an information management, email archiving and PST management solution provider.

“One of IT’s biggest challenges is to ensure business applications are up and running—promoting application availability, productivity and collaboration—often with limited time and resources,” said Rod Mathews, general manager of Storage at Barracuda, in a statement. “Protecting the modern workplace demands a new way of thinking. Data Protection Plus enables and accelerates the use of virtualization, cloud and mobile technologies, and represents the latest innovation across our storage product line.”

Data Protection Plus is designed to enable customers to simplify their IT infrastructure and centrally manage their solutions across the Barracuda portfolio using integrated interfaces that support configuration, monitoring and reporting, according to the company. Current Energize Updates subscribers will receive the new functionality upgrades for free.

The new solutions under the Data Protection Plus moniker include Barracuda Backup, which extends the flexibility for organizations deploying in cloud-connected environments as well as local control to enable control and management in "dark" environments, according to the company. Barracuda Message Archiver, meanwhile, extends existing archiving capacity by allowing the software to move or copy data to the Barracuda Cloud, while giving users access to email from any of their devices, regardless of whether email services are available. Other solutions, such as the Barracuda Copy Site Server and Barracuda SignNow Appliance, provide an on-premise device for local and cloud-based file sync and share and the ability for enterprises to share, sign and collaborate in a secure environment, respectively.

Barracuda’s acquisition of C2C Systems is expected to allow the company to offer customers a more complete information management and archiving portfolio to simplify their IT and control storage costs, according to the company. Barracuda said the acquisition will help it to eliminate risk associated with distributed PST files while reducing eDiscover overhead and supporting information management and governance via new retention management policies. The terms of the acquisition were not released.
