Virtual Computer, Lenovo Collaborate on NxTop Proliferation
Looking to bring a greater breadth of offerings in the virtualization space, Virtual Computer and Lenovo are collaborating on an effort that will enable Virtual Computer to ship its NxTop client virutalization solution on select Lenovo computers. Here are the details …
Virtual Computer’s NxTop client virtualization and management suite now will ship on specific models of the ThinkPad T and X series and ThinkCentre A and M Series for the desktop. Lenovo customers also will have the added benefit of Virtual Computer’s NxTop client loaded into custom images, straight from the factory via Lenovo’s imaging center.
The idea is to enable virtualization for SMBs and large business alike without the costs associated with supporting typical distributed desktop environments. Virtual Computer and Lenovo believe there is a reluctance to deploy VDI in corporate environments due to constraints in time, money, investment and resources, but the two companies hope this collaboration will lower the barrier of entry and offer an easy-to-deploy solution.
NxTop combines a centralized client managed with a bare-metal Xen-based client hypervisor that essentially can interoperate with a large mix of virtualized environments, be they remote, cloud or local. Users can run multiple VMs via NxTop and have access to the VMs while they’re off the network or while they’re mobile. An evaluation version of NxTop is available for download.
