Symantec’s NetBackup 7 Protects Virtual Environments
In February 2011, we offered up details on Symantec Endpoint Protection 12, which protects virtual environments. Now, Symantec has added NetBackup 7 to its list of virtualization-ready protection solutions. Read on for the quick details regarding the software enhancements …
NetBackup 7 now includes Virtual Machine Intelligent Policy technology specifically for the VMware environment. This new technology automates discovery and protection of the virtual machines, and enforces existing data protection policies. Symantec believes this update will help accelerate the move to virtual environments and put enterprises wary of deploying a large number of virtual machines and/or building out a private cloud without more simplified backup solutions at ease.
NetBackup 7 highlights include:
- Easy upgrade path for users of NetBackup 6 and 6.5
- 50 percent faster virtual machine backup with granular recovery technology
- Faster recovery with NetBackup realTime that now supports VMware environments for “near-instant” recovery of an entire system.
- NetBackup OpsCenter now allows for single-view management for data protection environments, audits, workload analyzers and more to maximize efficiency of both physical and virtual machines.
A full list of new features are detailed in the press release and on Symantec’s corporate blog.
