Software AG Gives Insight into IoT with Solution Accelerator

Big Data and business process technologies company Software AG released new details on its Internet of Things (IoT) Solution Accelerator, a set of smart tools designed to help business leaders gain insight into varying data sources from the expanding world of connected devices. The IoT Solution Accelerator enables data analysts to visualize and analyze the performance of their devices either individually or in relation to others to provide a clearer view of data patterns, according to the company.

With the increasing buzz about the importance of the Internet of Things, it’s becoming near impossible to avoid looking at the many benefits and pitfalls that come with a world of hundreds of millions of connected devices. With its new IoT Solution Accelerator, Software AG is enabling admins to develop what it calls “Smart Systems” that respond in real-time to patterns in event and sensor data.

The system combines five components to create a sort of data hub for users to monitor device performance, including real-time advanced streaming analytics, universal low latency messaging and in-memory processing of hundreds of terabytes of data, according to the press release. The system also utilizes real-time HTML5 dashboards that run anywhere, including portals, websites, Microsoft SharePoint and mobile devices with end-to-end security such as file sharing outside of the corporate firewall.

“We are witnessing a massive explosion with the interconnection of things as more physical objects become embedded with sensors, actuators and devices to gain the ability to collect data and communicate,” said John Crupi, vice president of Visual Analytics at Software AG, in a prepared statement. “Forward-thinking companies are already recognizing the potential benefits of a global system of Internet-connected things, but struggle with the challenge of how they can manage, control and act upon the anticipated tsunami of data and events that all this will undoubtedly create. The Software AG Internet of Things Solution Accelerator simplifies the tasks necessary to store, visualize and use the growing connectivity and influx of data.”

The IoT Solution Accelerator includes connectors to other IoT providers, including Axeda’s Machine Streams and AT&Ts M2M platform, to allow users to adapt the device to additional services, according to Software AG. The accelerator comes with a project development kit with developer tools for frameworks, templates and customizable user interfaces, giving users the tools they need to install and run the application directly out of the box. For IoT newcomers, the setup comes with documentation and source-code based intellectual property to give developers a boost if they are looking to customize or extend the capabilities of the Solution Accelerator.

Software AG is touting its IoT Solution Accelerator as a way for companies to build a comprehensive platform for the entire IoT infrastructure with end-to-end security and give users a new way to look at their data. The accelerator also combines real-time data and historical data at the same time to allow for a more comprehensive look into the opportunities and threats occurring around their devices.

Recently, other companies including Microsoft (MSFT) and McAfee have expressed interest in getting more involved with the Internet of Things phenomenon, with Microsoft reportedly working on a major team shift for its own IoT division back in February. For their part, McAfee is doubling down on its IoT security measures with a series of partnerships between fellow solutions providers to extend lifecycle security for connected devices. And with the expected amount of growth in the ever-expanding Internet of Things, other companies are sure to follow suit as more devices become a part of this massive virtual web.
