PernixData is enticing potential customers with a free solid-state drive (SSD) with every FVP standard software license sold into any Hewlett-Packard (HP) VSA environment, the company announced recently. The deal is valid until Dec. 31 and is designed to help customers buying Intel Xeon E5 v3 servers through HP to start out with a complete package for their software-defined data center.
The bundled offer adds additional value to HP’s existing promotion, which provides customers who purchase Intel’s new servers with free StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) software. Jeff Aaron, Pernixdata’s vice president of Marketing, said the deal will help new virtual data center customers to quickly get all the components for a complete data center in a single purchase and reduce the cost of providing end users with flash memory solutions.
“We want to make it easier for them to introduce this solution to their end users,” said Aaron, in an interview with The VAR Guy. “Obviously one of the potential sticking points is you need flash, so we’re taking that off the table. At the end of the day the single biggest thing that is going to be a draw to the resellers is the fact that customers want to move toward this architecture that actually improves their performance and lowers their cost, and we’ve giving them the premier solution for doing that.”
Pernixdata began shipping its FVP software last year, and currently has partnership deals with Dell and HP. The company is also focusing on working heavily with channel partners, with about 250 reseller partners signed on worldwide. Pernixdata also has a 1-tier program for U.S. channel partners and a separate multi-tier offering for its other global partners.
Last week, PernixData announced the release of several new editions of its existing FVP software, expected to help users facilitate the adoption of decoupled storage in end user environments. The additions were announced in conjunction with the general availability of the company’s FVP version 2.0 software.
The new editions of PernixData’s FVP software is available in several flavors, including FVP Enterprise, FVP Subscription and FVP Standard versions, among others. The software virtualizes server flash and RAM to create a low latency IO acceleration tier, thus decoupling storage performance from capacity and allowing users to scale-out storage performance quickly and cheaply, according to the company.
“With the latest editions of FVP software, PernixData brings enterprise-class storage acceleration features to every end user environment,” said Bala Narasimhan, director of product management at PernixData, in a statement. “By making it extremely easy and affordable to put storage intelligence into high speed server resources, PernixData is leading the decoupled movement and changing the storage landscape forever.”
