PEER 1 and VMware Partner For Hosted Private Cloud
As a newly-enrolled member of the VMware Service Provider Program, PEER 1 can offer its customers better disaster recovery and business continuity options by running applications and storing data in a virtualized environment in the cloud, according to the press release.
Other benefits of the new Hosted Private Cloud, according to the company: running multiple workloads on fewer servers and speeding up software development by using virtualized environments for testing.
It’s clear that PEER 1 is targeting this new offering at smaller businesses who can’t afford their own data centers but could still benefit from virtualized infrastructures. But The VAR Guy is confused by one thing — doesn’t “private cloud” mean a cloud behind your infrastructure? Doesn’t letting PEER 1 host it them themselves make it a public cloud?
We’ll be looking at private and public cloud trends and the broader virtualization market much more closely as VMworld gets set to start Aug. 30 in San Francisco.
