Overland Storage Brings SnapSAN S1000 to Channel

Overland Storage is launching a new line of products that will soon reach channel partners. The effort involves Overland Storage's SnapSAN solutions. Here's a quick overview.

I spoke with Global VP of Sales and Marketing, Jillian Mansolf, about the new SnapSAN S1000 for business-critical applications . She also covered the potential channel implications for Overland partners. You'll recall that Overland Storage acquired Snap Appliance Inc. in June 2008, and Overland has since built upon that technology to reach the disk-based data protection scene.

"We traditionally had NAS only. But now we have SnapSAN and SnapServer products coming out. It's a new market category for the partners and incremental [growth] for us."

She detailed why Snap will work well with Overland…

"We have a mature channel that sells data protection. We have 1,000 active partners worldwide. We're excited to provide this because partners have wanted this [SAN Solution] for 12- to 24 months. We have a great channel program with multiple tiers. Most partners have access to deal registration on the product. We've always been committed to the channel. We've never been direct nor will we be."

The SnapSAN S1000 is positioned for cloud storage, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, file backup, and email storage, including virtual servers with VMware and Microsoft's Hyper V. The tech specs are as follows:

  • 2U 12-drive modular SAN

  • Single or dual 1GbE or 10 GbE iSCSI

  • Fibre Channel

  • SAS Controllers

  • Expandable to 4-120TB and mix and match high performance SAS controllers

  • Redundant hot pluggable components

SanpSAN S1000 is available this month (October 2010) with a baseline price tag of $6,895 for a 4TB iSCSI solution or $4,195 without drives.
