CMT And MobileIron Team Up For Mobile Management

CMT and MobileIron have joined together to create a multi-OS smartphone management protection solution. That’s a mouthful, but read on. This has potential to be part of a new trend as users become increasingly more mobile…

Just to remind you, CMT (Computer Media Technologies) provides data security and protection, along with virtualization and consolidation, while MobileIron’s claim to fame is the Virtual Smartphone Platform. Together, the technology is set to provide “real-time intelligence and control” over the content on a users smartphone. That includes what kind of applications and activities said user is doing, too. What devices are supported? iPhone and iPad, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Palm and Symbian (Nokia) smart-phones. Android is set next.

CMT’s “Absolute Management Practice” will be integrated into MobileIron’s aforementioned software, to “manage and secure corporate assets across endpoint, network and storage systems.” Translation? Your mobile device gets the same corporate big-brother treatment your regular computer does. CMT will be installing, selling and configuring the solution as a MobileIron partner.

The channel angle? Maybe it won’t be long before security VARs can offer more than just desktop and laptop protection and backup. The mobile market, however, is frequently more fragmented than the desktop market. This could pose a challenge, though the future may hold less fragmentation as the mobile wars continue.
