OpenText, which recently bought Carbonite for $1.42 billion, has shelled out another $75 million to acquire XMedius, a provider of secure information exchange and unified communications (UC) solutions.

With more than 50,000 installations globally, the acquisition of XMedius further strengthens OpenText’s “leadership in secure information exchange, UC and digital fax,” said Mark Barrenechea, OpenText CEO and CTO. OpenText’s growth strategy includes both acquisitions and organic growth.

Marco De Vries, OpenText’s senior director of product marketing, tells Channel Partners that XMedius expands upon OpenText’s existing customer communications management (CCM) and workforce optimization (WFO) solutions, bringing an “innovative approach” to call handling, distribution and automation.

“This will allow users to develop more intelligent contact center and omnichannel customer experiences — two areas critical to maintaining strong relationships with customers in any industry,” he said. “Additionally, customers and partners can now benefit from the six additional global fax data centers, which will enable partners to easily allow customers to meet a growing list of regional data sovereignty mandates when doing business around the world.”

XMedius provides technologies to optimize the omnichannel customer experience and the connected business. These solutions will complement OpenText’s customer experience management (CEM) and business network (BN) platforms, according to OpenText.

“The move furthers our vision of being a true information company, and allows partners to offer an even more complete suite of customer communication and WFO solutions to customers,” De Vries said. “The acquisition of XMedius strengthens OpenText leadership in key vertical markets and accelerates our reach into the midmarket with a broader network of reseller partnerships. OpenText now brings together leading solutions for enterprises and SMBs leveraging both cloud and off-cloud solutions.”

OpenText welcomes “XMedius’s customers, strong partner network and employees,” he said.

“Together, we will bring leading cloud and hybrid solutions to enterprises and small to mid-sized businesses,” De Vries said.

XMedius generates about $40 million in annual revenue.
