Tropical Storm Karen: U.S. Gulf Coast MSPs Get Ready
Tropical Storm Karen, which could become a hurricane, is expected to slam the U.S. Gulf Coast on Saturday. MSPs (managed services providers) have plenty of time to protect customer data using cloud-based backup and disaster recovery (BDR) services. But how many MSPs are truly ready for the storm?
The answer is reassuring: Roughly 91 percent of the world’s Top 501 MSPs offer some form of cloud-based BDR to end-customers, according to the MSPmentor 501 report from February 2013. Still, it’s difficult to determine what percentage of MSPs in the Gulf Coast region are ready to fully protect customer data.
How big will Tropical Storm Karen be if it reaches U.S. shores? The early warnings include hurricane watches. A tropical storm warning was issued Thursday from Grand Isle, La., to the mouth of the Pearl River, which forms the border between Louisiana and Mississippi. A hurricane watch also has been posted from Grand Isle, La., to west of Destin, Fla., according to USA Today.
