Datto now has two virtual appliances in its backup and disaster recovery (BDR) product portfolio available to channel partners: Virtual SIRIS and Virtual ALTO.

The Norwalk, Connecticut-based business continuity solutions provider this week unveiled Virtual ALTO, the company’s newest virtual appliance for MSPs, and additional enhancements to Virtual SIRIS, which was originally released in June 2014.

Virtual ALTO protects both virtual and physical servers, just like Virtual SIRIS. It was designed to run on vSphere Essentials, vSphere Free and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms, and it was built specifically for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Virtual SIRIS enhancements enable MSPs to spin up local recovery virtual machines (VMS), even in the absence of Internet connectivity. Virtual SIRIS leverages the same technologies as Datto SIRIS 2, the physical version of the appliance.

“Our customers have really been deploying in some high-complexity environments and seeing great success, which is something that we’ve been really excited about,” said Austin McChord, founder and CEO of Datto, in an interview with MSPmentor.

What makes Datto’s virtual appliances different from its competitors in the market is that they protect both physical and virtual systems, a plus for any customer operating in mixed environments, McChord said.

Both Virtual SIRIS and Virtual ALTO are available today in North America. Distribution in EMEA and Australia begins on October 28. A 45-day free trial for both offerings is available to channel partners.
