Balancing the needs of backup and disaster recovery (BDR) customers can be tough to juggle at times for managed services providers (MSP), but if MSPs focus on a few core business principals, balancing can be a breeze.

CCNS Consulting owner Karl Bickmore, a BDR expert, spoke with MSPmentor briefly on three core business principals his staff implements on a day-to-day basis for BDR.

"In business in general, there are three legs to the stool that must be fully functional to prevent something from getting out of balance," he said.

His company stands on the following legs for its BDR customers:

  • People.

  • Technology.

  • Process.

People

Bickmore said his staff is required to be service minded throughout their daily operations, especially with BDR. Each of his staff members need to be consistent, he said, otherwise it can be chaotic and his customers would suffer from poor service.

Technology

"We as an organization believe in technology as an investment that pays back dividend exponentially," Bickmore said.

His company invests heavily in technology and it pays off. He said the key is to always be ahead of the game, looking for ways to be more efficient and to serve customers better and faster.

Process

Bringing everything together is how his company's BDR process. Bickmore said his company focuses on being service oriented and that must show in the process.

"That allows us to provide consistent levels of service no matter who is working with a client. This is a very important way we distinguish ourselves from our competition," he said. "This makes working with our clients dependent on our system and our team, not any individual."
