SNET DG ENHANCES DATA GATEWAY SERVICES
SNET Diversified Group Inc. has enhanced its data gateway
service with SIP message processing. The company aims to give VoIP providers
access to traditional SS7 databases for the retrieval of call processing and
call display information, including toll-free, local number portability, calling
name and alternately billed services such as calling cards.
SNET DG says its SIP message processing enhances its data
gateway service by providing a SIP access method to the companys data gateway
service platform. [It] provides VoIP providers with access to legacy telco
databases without having to interact with TDM networks or gateways, says Suzette Taylor in the business development division. VoIP
calls can stay VoIP, which helps to preserve voice quality and make call
processing more efficient.
The company says the enhancement will help VoIP providers
better compete with PSTN providers.

NET.COM RELEASES NEW SHOUTIP VERSION
Network Equipment Technologies Inc. (net.com) has added
features to its SHOUTIP platform, voice and data networking products for
migrating to IP telephony. The release includes network address translation
(NAT) traversal, which prevents IP-based voice calls from being blocked by
enterprise firewalls by modifying VoIP signaling, ensuring a call passes through
the NAT correctly.
SHOUTIP also now includes SIP registration for enhanced
session-border control between SIP-enabled telephones and an enterprise IP PBX
or a carrier IP Centrex server. net.com says this allows SIP phones in a private
network to work with an external proxy in the public network. With SIP
registration, SHOUTIP enables round-trip functionality as it generates and
sends registration and invitation requests to the external registrar, or proxy,
and authenticates invitations on the return side. The company says this
enhancement reduces the number of registration entries the network operator is
required to make when provisioning VoIP services.
This release of SHOUTIP further has features for government
customers and other users requiring secure VoIP capabilities, such as a
synchronous serial interface for connecting to other devices. SHOUTIP offers
basic rate interface connectivity to INMARSAT satellite communications gear and
supports SS7 signaling for carriers.

VERISIGN LAUNCHES NETWORK ROUTING DIRECTORY
VeriSign Inc. has launched its Network Routing Directory, an
IP registry and home subscriber server platform for service providers to offer

housing addresses, and subscriber- and servicelocation profiles. The company
says it developed the directory in response to wireless and wireline carrier
convergence within the 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystem architecture. The product
supports the enhanced telephonenumber mapping protocol, SIP and SS7, providing
access to key directory components for route optimization, rules and policy
enforcement and translations.
Network Routing Directory services include several tiers of
routing and directory for VoIP, such as intercarrier and intracarrier, as well
as several tiers of subscriber profiles, including enterprise, consumer and
