Siemens Communications Inc. yesterday named Berndt Baumgartl its new president and CEO.

Baumgartl succeeds Andy Mattes, who has left the company, and will serve on the Siemens Communications board.

Baumgartl joined Siemens AG in Munich, Germany in July of 1986, where he held management positions in the Defense Electronics Group until late 1993. He then moved into the mobile networks business unit of Siemens and, since coming to the United States in 1997, he has worked in the wireless infrastructure, mobile phones and wireless modules business for the North American wireless communications market. Since September 2005, he has been COO of Siemens Communications.

Siemens Communications serves wireless and wireline carriers, enterprises, cable operators and service providers.
