… ON NOV. 24, THE DAY WIRELESS PROVIDERS WERE REQUIRED TO IMPLEMENT LOCAL
NUMBER PORTABILITY, ALLOWING CUSTOMERS TO KEEP THEIR PHONE NUMBERS.
Todays implementation of wireless local number portability is the
advent of true intermodal competition.
Kathleen Abernathy, Commissioner, FCC
There have not been long
lines in the stores, but there has been a steady stream of switchers. Id call
it robust but not crazy. But then again, things are normally robust this time of
year and there is still plenty of time for chaos to creep up in!coming days and
weeks.
Jeff Kagan, telecom analyst
While the recent decision to
require wireless companies to allow a customer to take their phone number with
them when they switch to a new provider is a good first step lets get
real. Most people are thinking Who cares? I still cant take my wireline
local phone number with me when I move my home or to another office.
