Ribbon Communications has expanded its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver real-time, automated call analytics and recording.

Ribbon’s session border controllers (SBCs) with session initiation protocol-based media recording (SIPREC) capabilities now support Amazon Chime Voice Connector with a tested solution for AWS customers by forwarding audio streams to AWS for real-time analytics.

Kevin Isacks, Ribbon’s vice president of edge products, tells Channel Partners this is another choice for partners serving vertical markets that are regulated or have compliance requirements.

“With SIPREC from the Ribbon SBC Software Edition (SWe) in AWS, our partners can bundle in compliance and recording solutions,” he said. “This allows VARs and MSPs to offer additional solutions to their enterprise customers, including access to the machine learning services in AWS like Transcribe.”

Ribbon is a select partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN), and its SWe is available in AWS Marketplace and as an AWS Quick Start. In March of 2019, Ribbon announced that its SBC SWe was successfully tested with the Chime Voice Connector to help customers move their SIP trunking workloads to AWS.

Chime Voice Connector is a service that allows enterprises to migrate their telephony workloads to AWS. IT professionals can use it for low-cost SIP trunking with on-premises or cloud-based phone systems.

“Ribbon is one of the few SBC vendors to offer this capability in its SBCs,” Isacks said. “It provides a lightweight insertion point to round out the solution. Competitive solutions do not work with the AWS tool chain. For Ribbon, this is more about providing our partners with a highly differentiated solution: carrier-class features, security and performance that can be accessed in AWS. Ribbon SBC SWe is built to scale for the largest enterprises and can support 12,000 sessions in a single instance along with GPU support for transcoding in public clouds. Ribbon SBC SWe is also highly efficient and cloud optimized, which mean that our partners and their customers will spend less on compute resources, making service deliver much more cost effective.”

“Our customers tell us that the traditional approach to verifying compliance related to financial transactions done over the phone, which involves having teams of people listen to samples of recorded calls, is expensive,” said Sid Rao, AWS‘s general manager of Amazon Chime. “We’re delighted to be working with Ribbon to enable customers to use SBCs with the Amazon Chime Voice Connector SIPREC feature and Amazon Transcribe to build a real-time, automated solution that can analyze calls to assist with compliance.”
