APERTO EXPANDS PACKETWAVE OFFERINGS

Aperto Networks Inc. has expanded its PacketWave 802.16 class broadband wireless products to include a new base station called the PacketWave 760. The 760 is based on the same architecture as the PacketWave 1000, but it features pay-asyou- grow pricing. Aperto says providers don’t pay for ports or stackable modules until they have the traffic and subscribers to justify buying more infrastructure. The 760 also performs as an access point that may be backhauled to a central site using PacketWave 600 Series point-to-point links or function as a cell-within-a-sector of a PacketWave 1000.

The company says service providers can remotely manage their base station capacity use and pre-plan for subscriber capacity, and get ROI in less than six months.

The PacketWave 760 is available for the 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, and will operate in the same sector and cell as Aperto’s WiMAX Forumcertified base stations and subscriber equipment, when they are introduced in the coming year. The PacketWave system provides a single platform for delivering converged data, voice and video services over an IP network.

ALVARION LAUNCHES WIMAX PLATFORM

Wireless broadband solutions company Alvarion Ltd. has launched its WiMAX platform, BreezeMAX, which is based on the IEEE 802.16/ETSI HiperMAN standards and WiMAX Forum profiles. The platform’s initial release, BreezeMAX 3500, operates in the 3.5GHz frequency band and is designed to support WiMAX-certified CPEs, which will incorporate the Intel WiMAX chip set as it becomes available.

BreezeMAX will support future enhancements such as smart antennas, OFDMA, zero install and mobility. It offers macro and micro base stations, for urban and rural areas. It also works for businesses and residences BreezeMAX supports multiple applications, such as IP-based voice and data, including multiport devices for MDU/MTU, indoor Wi-Fi connectivity, firewall and advanced IP functions for home networking and hotspot backhauling.

VERILINK DEBUTS VOIP-ENABLED DEVICES PRODUCTNEWS

Broadband access solutions company Verilink Corp. has unveiled the 8000 Series of VoIP-enabled Integrated Access Devices (IADs) for carriers. The 8000 Series works from the customer’s location, and supports Session Initiated Protocol and Media Gateway Control Protocol. It also provides a built-in migration path from Time Division Multiplexing or Asynchronous Transfer Mode to IP.

The 8000 Series plugs into existing phones, PBX, and Key systems and works with a range of WAN interfaces, including ADSL, SDSL, G.SHDSL, T1 and E1. The remote management functionality allows services to be configured, provisioned and managed without truck rolls. The IADs have SNMP remote management so providers and enterprises can automate the configuration and provisioning of new services, as well as troubleshooting and maintenance.

CARRIUS, D-TAC UNVEIL TURNKEY SYSTEM

Telecommunication systems development company Carrius Technologies Inc. and D-TAC Corp., an OSS and billing systems provider, have partnered to give VoIP network operators a telephony solution that includes billing management and customer care. The companies say VoIP network operators now can upgrade their networks from “box” solutions to carriergrade VoIP systems using the Carrius Compleat-200 IP gateways.

The Compleat-200 is scalable from 48 to 10,752 calls per shelf, and allows interworking from any PSTN-to-VoIP and VoIP-to-VoIP networks, according to the companies. Its protocol bridge supports CAS, ISDN PRI, SS7/C7, H.323 and SIP. The Compleat-200 also has management capabilities for existing “box” networks that allows service providers to cap existing networks and grow them with Carrius systems.

D-TAC’s D-HD product line offers telecom-specific billing and business automation features to facilitate operations from customer support to invoicing.

QUARRY LAUNCHES WEB-BASED CUSTOMER SELF-MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Quarry Technologies Inc., supplier of security service routers, has unveiled its new iQCSM Web-based customer self-management system. The company says its iQCSM application provides unprecedented visibility into provider-based security services by letting customers view and modify existing policies, and add security services and users through a customized Web portal. The technology works in real time.

The Quarry iQCSM system is integrated with the Quarry iQSMS service management system that runs with the Quarry iQ-series Security Service Routers.

Managers can modify security policies for all sites from a single location. The customer accesses the iQCSM with a standard Web browser; an XML tool kit also is given to the service provider so it can customize or brand the interface for customers.

The Quarry iQCSM customer self-management system also allows enterprise customers to automatically provision new services such as firewalls; to autoprovision bandwidth on demand; and generate reports.

The Quarry iQ-series Security Service Routers allow service providers to offer network-based security services to IP, MPLS and Frame Relay VPNs, extending the enterprise security perimeter to the edge of the service provider’s network.
