Nortel Ex-Workers: Canada Needs a Tech Revival

Laid-off Nortel workers are getting together – for their country.

Many gathered with high-tech leaders and members of the Ottawa community Wednesday to figure out ways to bring high-tech jobs back to Canada. Ideas focused on getting the government involved to support employees and the high-tech industry as a whole.

Some in attendance pointed out how every taxpayer should care about tech jobs can contribute to a robust economy. Others urged attendees not to let Nortel’s collapse affect Canada’s high-tech standing on the world stage.

One economic development leader stressed that strategies should be developed to help laid-off tech workers get back on the job.
